SpaceRace

During the 5th semester at Hagenberg, the main project was to create a game that demonstrates A-GPS (Assisted GPS) functionality on mobile phones. Infineon together with Global Locate first presented the game at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes.

The biggest challenge was to make a game that can be explained in one minute and which provides the attendees with instant action and fun. This criteria was met by the final concept. The game has to be played by two persons who have to work together to get a highscore. One of them has got an A-GPS enabled phone and has to collect virtual crystals, which appear and disappear on the playfield. The other member of the team assists on a regular computer.

While the player with the phone only sees the distance to the crystals on his phone display, the navigator on the computer sees the whole playfield and the positions of the player and the crystals. The major fun factor is the communication between them as none of them has the complete information, e.g.: "You have to go east, quick!" - "I can't go east, there's a wall".

In the first phase of the project, all of us worked together to create the game concept. After this, the responsibilities were split up, I was responsible for the graphical representation of the game.
